For months, I mean months, I have had very little coffee. I LOVE coffee.
My first experience of latte bliss is highly attributed to Seth and Jake at age 13, in Missoula, they took me downtown for a delightful drink that I had never thought about trying. They first are shocked to know that I have never had it "you have to try one, you will love it" I am intrigued but a little scared, after all my parents always told me that this was something that was for adults and there were physical side affects to participating. I knew my dad struggled with the nasty habit and my mom tried all her hippy tinctures and herbal remedies to little avail. So I knew it was a slippery slope. There was no assurance from my "friends" that I could stop at any time, actually the opposite "you have to drink the whole thing, don't waste it, if you don't like it at first, you will surely like it a couple of sips later....etc". I watch the two confidently walk up to the counter and order their drinks and then I hesitate, Seth quickly orders for me. NO BACKING OUT. I receive my drink and I take a sip, both guys staring at me intently, and it was NIRVANA.
Yes, floodgates opened. I LOVE the foam, the smooth texture, the sweet after taste, the warmth as it goes down my throat....
I have never gone back, now years later, I have fond memories of drinking coffee with my dad (my mom could not break him), my brothers ( they all love it too, two words, Coffee people), drinking cups with my girlfriends in a hotel on the coast, drinking it with my sister in law Sarah as we discuss how we should really cut back on sweets, spreading the addiction to my dear husband (who can't go a day without his morning coffee), having it iced, mochaed, or black, I don't discriminate.
Now that it is winter I am enjoying a lot of coffee and Noah has been super hyper lately. I can't go back to just a little caffeine. I am adding him to the band wagon. Does this make me a bad mother or a good one to show him how good it is?
Regardless, here's to you, all my blogging friends, I am air klinking with all of you.
